schools. About 400 students in all took part in this field test. The results were beyond even our own expectations. In a particular school, about 300 children, mostly Primary 1 kids after 6
months of schooling and two classes of Primary Two kids, were selected for this programme because they had not yet learnt to read.
After 24 lessons, the results showed the remarkable progress that the students made. Almost 98% students passed, with 86% scoring excellent to perfect scores. As part of the project, the teachers were not allowed to have access to the test papers until the very hour. Students who did badly were those who skipped classes because of poor home support.
The results show clearly that students need not be drilled into confusion. It has always been our belief that all we need to do as educators is to provide children with the basics and more importantly, the conditions for them to arrive at the "Aha!" experience for themselves. Students being willing learners will do the rest! We just have to give them the chance!!
