A-Star Interactive, Singapore's leading publisher of children's CD-ROMs, was started in 1996 by two teachers who saw the need for good educational software.

Observing that children can be totally absorbed and dedicatedly paying attention to the most intricate details while playing, they designed software that engages children by introducing a high element of fun and play.

For its innovative work, A-Star received the EDB-NCB Innovation Award 1997 and IDA e-Learning Award in 2002.

Many parents have since been converted to believing that children do learn through play - if it is directed.

A thankful and jubilant parent called A-Star to congratulate the company on its exam series and said, "My husband who is in the IT line was lamenting to a (senior politician) about the lack of creative talent in Singapore. I shall tell him they're all at A-Star."

Today, A-Star's constellation of "stars" - Ribbons, Bobo, Magic the Dancing Brush, Captain Orion and the Ninja Girl - has found audience in Hong Kong, Abu Dubai, USA, Australia, Indonesia, Malaysia and Vietnam. In Singapore, A-Star's products are in all primary schools.

They have enabled children to learn - and to love learning.
